After appearing in this film, Spencer became a real life jet airplane and helicopter pilot. He established Mistral Air in 1984, an air-mail company that also transports pilgrims, but later sold it to Poste Italiane to buy a textile mill that produced clothes for children.
The airport where they first land before the opening credits is Eldorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia. The first images are of downtown Bogotá. However, much of the next part before the jungle crash was filmed in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia which is more than 400 miles away from Bogotá in the Caribbean Coast. The airport where the Catalina PBY takes off, is Simon Bolívar International Airport in Santa Marta, Colombia. At the time of filming neither violence or drug traffic were widespread in the country, making it safer to film everywhere.
