Kid Sentiment

Those were the days...

In the sixties, National Filmbord of Canada presents us some very fine directors with a great sense of creativity. Those were the days of experiences, of ideas and innovation. It was also the time of direct cinema. Jacques Godbout was part of that movement and this film, Kid Sentiment, surely represents that era. It also really represents the youth culture of North America of that time. Those who were part hippies and part of the system (as we said at that time.) Teenagers wants to be in California but lives at their parents home! Here, Parizeau and Guy - of the rock group Les Sinners - are crusing two girls, while there's no parents at their home! The girls wants a little bit of romance, and the guys wants to have fun, and do stupid things to impress the girls. This is some kind of story. But in the middle of the film, Godbout stops everything to tell the guys and the girls that the film is boring, and that they have to add some feelings to the story. Free cinema! Good fun, because the four young ones really look sixties! You know, miniskirt, long hairs, round glasses, flowers draw on the face, and, of course, smoking banana peal! Jacques Godbout will remain a true innovative director in the documentary, and make some fine fiction pictures. He's also a brillant author. So, if you want to see teenagers in North America at the end of the sixties, I'm sure you will enjoy Kid Sentiment. Les Sinners sings two good songs in the film.
