I recently watched the UK film 🇬🇧 The Million Eyes of Sumuru (1967) on Tubi. The story follows Sumuru, who is on a mission for world domination by assassinating men in power and replacing them with members of her army of women. Two bumbling agents set out to find her secret lair and stop her.
Directed by Lindsay Shonteff (The Yes Girls), the film stars Frankie Avalon (Grease), Shirley Eaton (Goldfinger), George Nader (Robot Monster), and Klaus Kinski (For a Few Dollars More).
It's clear this film was aiming for a lighthearted, Bond-style vibe. The women are stunning, and while there's some subtle nudity, it's far more restrained than you might expect. The costumes are great, and the overall look and feel hit the right notes-but unfortunately, there's not much substance here. The plot quickly becomes watered down, making the film feel boring over time. It's a shame because the model work and explosive ending are fun.
In conclusion, The Million Eyes of Sumuru has a few entertaining moments, but not enough to make it worthwhile. I'd score it a 4/10.
