The 1967 movie version of "Pauline" was originally developed to be released as a TV series and is in fact, the compilation of the pilot and subsequent 2nd and 3rd episodes. Unfortunately the first few episodes were considered a complete flop and were unable to garner any interest from any sponsor or network of the day. In order to salvage what they could, the first three episodes were combined by Universal Pictures into a theatrical film release.
Cartoonist and Monty Python star Terry Gilliam was responsible for the ad campaign design to promote this movie.
The theatrical release of this film used the tagline "That 'Rebellion Girl' is dodgin' unbelievable perils in The Perils of Pauline." This was a reference to Pamela Austin's sudden celebrity in a series of television commercials for automaker Dodge in which her catchphrase was "The Dodge Rebellion wants you!"
The show was meant to reflect the popular 1960's TV style of villains and heroes (similar as Batman) where each episode was a self contained story, the episodes would run into each other.
The voice of Prince Benji was dubbed by voice specialist June Foray. She also supplied the voice of baby Pauline.
