the golden girl has a run-in with another spy

Well, it appears that I'm the first person reviewing "The Scorpio Letters". Makes sense, considering how obscure it is. I only learned of it because I made a list of movies to see, ranked by director, and I saw that this was Richard Thorpe's final movie (he had previously directed the Elvis Presley vehicle "Jailhouse Rock").

Anyway, the convoluted plot involves a US agent in England who uncovers a blackmail scheme that leads him to the French Alps. Probably the most noticeable thing about the movie nowadays is the appearance of Shirley Eaton, best known as the bikini-clad babe who experiences a yellow-painted fate in "Goldfinger". I guess that it made sense to cast her in another spy-themed movie.

Overall it's not a great movie. There were a lot of similar movies released around the same time, and they started to run together. You'll probably enjoy it if you like the sight of Shirley Eaton in sexy outfits.

    • Trivia
While filming this in the U.S., Shirley Eaton was eating lunch at MGM Studios when Bob Hope walked in. He remembered her from when they worked together when she was 17 in the Royal Variety Performance. They chatted awhile and then offered her the lead in his next film Eight on the Lam (1968). So after wrapping The Scorpio Letters, she stayed in the States to make it.
