Torsten Lilliecrona, who in previous Saltkråkan-movies and the TV-series, had portrayed the popular character Melker Melkerson, does not return for this movie. Torsten asked for a bigger salary in order to reprise the role. This was intentional, as Torsten had grown tired of being associated with the character. The last straw came when people laughed when they saw him in MacBeth and shouting "There comes Melker".
The production worked as a therapy of sorts for actor Hans Alfredsson, who plays Ruskprick in this movie. His son, Mats, had recently died and working with the children cheered him up.
