Rufus happens upon a promising songwriter and persuades Bert to represent. Claudia's former boyfriend is now a record producer and Bert convinces him the diner is a chain. An order of 3,000 rolls is the result.
When Dan's interrogation methods are deemed unlawful in court, a drug smuggler whom Jack and Dan busted months ago is set free. Despite the absence of department resources, an unfettered Dan vows to bring down the entire smuggling ring using only the money in his pocket.
Rufus starts predicting the future which in the beginning is harmless fun. But when Rufus foresees Bert having a terrible accident he tries to protect his friend from any disaster.
Bert makes the error of loaning his buddy Rufus his credit card. Rufus doesn't know how to control his spending and Bert has outrageous bills show up that are due.

Bert hires an ex-convict at the diner but he and Rufus are nervous about the man relapsing. Bert is worried about the wrong person turning criminal however as Rufus accidentally steals the man's watch.
Rufus goes to a lot of trouble to surprise Bert with a toupee for his birthday, but Bert flatly refuses to wear it until Claudia persuades him to try it -- and, to her horror, he becomes a changed man.

Bert hires Julian who laments of being irresistible to women. Rufus and Bert are doubtful but waitress Stella falls for him despite a jealous boyfriend Enrico. The two pals are shocked when Claudia and Julian disappear.
Henry Arsdale, Claudia's wealthy father, visits and make it clear he disapproves that his daughter works in a diner. Bert and Rufus try to cheer Claudia up along with showing Henry the eatery isn't that bad.
