Joan Crawford was originally going to play the mother role of Martha Williams, but dropped out due to disagreements.
Issues with regard to billing popped up early in production. Giuliano Gemma requested top-billing and his contract reflected this but Joan Crawford objected to this telling reporters, "I've told them I've earned it!" In an attempt to resolve the issue producer Turi Vasile agreed to give Crawford top-billing in all countries except Italy where her name would appear below the title in a special outlined box in publicity materials.
Joan Crawford took issue with the title of the film so producer Turi Vasile changed it to 'The Cats', however, to Joan's dismay the original title was reinstated.
