This marks the first time Henry Fonda played a villain in a theatrical film. He played another villain this same year in Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).
James Stewart's revolver was a Colt M1909 double-action .45 Long Colt with an 1873 Colt ejector rod and shroud fitted to the side of the barrel to give the appearance of a single action revolver. Notice Stewart opened the cylinder out of the frame to check if it is loaded, the cylinder ejector rod and lanyard loop on the handle.
Ed Begley and Inger Stevens were co-stars in this film and Hang 'Em High (1968), westerns from the same year both of which included the "Rock of Ages" hymn on their soundtracks. Two years later, they died two days apart on April 28 and 30, 1970, respectively, both in Hollywood.
One of only three films in which long-time friends Henry Fonda and James Stewart worked together; the others were On Our Merry Way (1948) and The Cheyenne Social Club (1970). Both appeared in How the West Was Won (1962) as fur trappers who were friends, but they did not appear in the same scenes.
