Brigitte Bardot's marriage to wealthy German playboy Gunter Sachs was crumbling when shooting began on this movie in Almeria, Spain. There was plenty of press coverage which speculated that there was a liaison between Bardot and Stephen Boyd, with whom she had made "The Night Heaven Fell (1958)." Apparently, though, it was French singer Serge Gainsbourg with whom Miss Bardot had had a torrid affair, although it too had come to an end when she arrived in Spain to begin filming. Gainsbourg laments the end of their affair in his song "Initials BB", where he sings "Almeria, Almeria" as it fades out.
Brigitte Bardot was an early choice to portray Tracy in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)." She was unable to do so because she was shooting this film with Sir Sean Connery.
