Robin Williams involvement with the film began during his stand-up days, which is fitting since the film is actually a film of short jokes. When "Can I Do It..." was released to theatres in 1977, his appearance in the film was non-existant, due to his footage being left on the famous "cutting room floor". But our story would have ended there, except for a series called "Mork And Mindy", which catapulted a certain actor named Robin Williams to super stardom in 1978.

The makers of Can I Do It... decided to, either because they discovered that they had done a bad thing by leaving his footage out or just thought they could make more money, edited Robin Williams' filmed material back into the film, the length of which was about four minutes. Along with the re-release, a new trailer was made, featuring footage from one of his skits, and with the tagline "The funniest man on television is now the funniest man in the movies.", the new trailer made it appear that he was the star of the film when in reality he was in less segments that the majority of the cast.

Suffice it to say, Mr. Williams was not amused and sued the film's producers over his "appearance" in the film. The exact amount is not known, but it has been rumored that the matter was settled out of court to the tune of five million dollars, or approximately 1.25 million per minute of time Robin Williams appeared on screen during the re-release.
