Starhops (1978)

Trivia

Starhops

Edit
Starhops was originally rated PG. In order to reach a different audience, the distributors added more explicit language and the film was re-rated as an R.
At the beginning of every new morning, there's a shot of the sun coming up over a hillside that lasts over one-minute: then panning down to the diner. It also seems as if the cameraman fell asleep, and adds to the camp value.
The 2024 Blu-ray special edition of the 2014 documentary That Guy Dick Miller contains a bonus disc featuring the uncut R-rated version of Starhops. This version runs 82 minutes whereas all prior versions ran 87 minutes due to extensive and tedious stock footage of sunsets, meadows, ocean waves crashing on rocks, and footage of beachgoers, beach volleyball players, and roller skaters who have nothing to do with the story. None of this footage was filmed by director Barbara Peeters and her crew, nor was it ever part of her edit of the film, and the story plays out far more effectively without it. The print used on the Blu-Ray was remastered in the proper 1.78:1 aspect ratio rather than the 'open matte' 1.33:1 framing used on all previous copies (a common practise during the VHS era). The Blu-ray version of Starhops is the R-rated cut, although it only earns this distinction due to some minor dubbed-over profanity, and one brief shot of Dorothy Buhrman's naked backside.
