Rob Zombie Pays Tribute to Sid Haig One Year After His Passing
Image
One year after horror star Sid Haig's passing, filmmaker and frequent collaborator Rob Zombie paid tribute to the genre icon on social media. Over the course of three of Zombie's movies, Haig portrayed the sinister clown Captain Spaulding, a character that has since become one of the horror genre's most recognizable villains. Sadly, Haig died in September 2019, just days after the release of Zombie's movie 3 from Hell.

Taking to Facebook on the one-year anniversary of Haig's death, Zombie had this to say about the late actor.

"Well, today marks one year since my buddy Sid Haig left us. We did a lot of stuff together over the twenty years we were friends. He was my first and only choice for Captain Spaulding back in 1999. As sad as it was, I am so glad he got to play Spaulding one last time even if it was brief. He gave it all he had.

The Internet Pays Tribute To Horror Icon Sid Haig
This past weekend, we lost a cult horror icon.

Sid Haig, the man best known as Rob Zombie’s murderous clown across The Devil’s Rejects and House Of 1000 Corpses, passed away at the age of 80, sending the Internet into a state of mourning. Taking to Instagram, Haig’s wife Susan L. Oberg offered what was perhaps the perfect send-off, all the while asking for privacy and respect in their time of loss.

In her statement, Olberg admitted that Haig’s death came as a shock to the entire family. The cult performer had initially suffered an accident that put him in the ICU a fortnight ago, though appeared to be making a recovery in time for the arrival of Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell, in which he reprised his role as Captain Spaulding.

Alas, the long-in-development horror sequel will now be remembered as one of Sid Haig’s final films,...

Beyond He-Man and She-Ra: celebrating the Filmation legacy
Andrew Younger Sep 2, 2016

Tarzan, Space Sentinels, The New Adventures Of Batman, Flash Gordon, Bravestarr and more, as we salute Filmation...

For a child of the 1970s and 80s, nothing readied you for a half hour of quality entertainment quite like the Filmation logo. Immortalised by their phenomenal success with He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe, and its spin off She-Ra: Princess Of Power, Filmation produced some of the most fondly remembered animated series to grace the small screen.

Over a period of 26 years - in tandem with classic Doctor Who funnily enough - the company's writers, artists and producers delivered a staggering amount of programming. While naysayers point to Filmation's penchant for reusing a stockpile of rotoscoped body movements, or the heavy handedness of its moralising and educational content - children on the other hand, thrilled to an irresistible mixture of action, adventure and superhuman heroes.

Now something of a lost art form,...

11 films and TV shows that tried to be Star Wars
The success of Star Wars inspired a legion of similarly themed rip-offs. Here, Rob salutes some of the best and worst…

1977 was a big year for sci-fi, given that it's when George Lucas first gave the world Star Wars. And while it's been said that George himself 'borrowed' from a lot of other films to make the original trilogy (and from a lot of poor computer games for the latter ones), there were those who jumped on the sci-fi bandwagon at the time and tried, no matter what the quality, to give us more space opera fun.

Here, then, we salute 11 films and TV shows that tried to be another Star Wars....

Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan (1982)

How can Star Trek copy Star Wars? Well, for the first outing on the big screen for Trek, the premise was a big, galactic cerebral space epic, filled with more high-brow...
