When the film was first launched in 1974, it was titled "Jalwa" and had Vijay Anand's wife Loveleen in the lead role. She was later replaced by Rekha.

It was Sunil Dutt who encouraged actor Shiv Kumar to turn producer with Ahinsa.

The film was a box-office success.
