Denis Norden's memory is playing tricks on him. In his autobiography, he refers to this film as "Confessions of a Door-to-Door Salesman", and his pseudonym as Nicholas Roy.
Jonathan Demme was signed to direct the entire film, but departed after a few days because of "artistic differences" and was replaced by Wolf Rilla. Demme's work still survives in the film behind the main titles.
Johnny Briggs character Loman would appear to be a subtle nod to the central character in Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman".
Four actresses receive "introducing" credits:- Sue Longhurst, Felicity Devonshire, Victoria Burgoyne and Jan Servais.
