The "Supervan" was based on a 1966 Dodge A-100 platform and was created by the legendary George Barris. It was fully restored and was sold for $100,000 at the Barrett-Jackson auto auction in January 2016.
SuperVan has a cameo in Back To The Future 2 (1989). Sprayed green but still recognisable, it can be seen whizzing behind the elderly Biff Tannen in 2015 Hill Valley.
Being unique, and being featured in a film, can often increase a car's value. But, as chatshow host Jay Leno and Donald Osborne, an automation valuation expert, discovered while appraising the SuperVan on a 2017 episode of CNBC's "Jay Leno's Garage," that's not always true. Sold at auction for $100,000 in 2016 the infamous 'Love Machine' SuperVan had depreciated in value to $63,000.
Katie Saylor on "Supervan": "A producer friend called me and told me the woman who was going to play the lead in his feature film Super Van, had walked out. They were to begin shooting in Missouri in two days. He begged me to take the part. So I went to Missouri for four weeks and called Harvey [her soon to be husband] three or four times a night."
In his guide on Vansploitation movies, Jason Coffman called the van a "bizarre, 70s-futuristic beast."
