When this film was made, Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni were a couple in real life and had just had a daughter, they having broken up a year later in 1974 when said daughter was two years old. Chiara Mastroianni, that daughter, has stated this film is the first of her parents' four films together during the time of their union that she ever watched.
