Quotes

The Outfit

Edit
  • Buck's Wife: [alone with Jack Cody, who's sitting on the porch of the 'hideout', while she's just out of the shower dressed in nothing but a see-through bathrobe] Wanna come on inside 'n have a drink?
  • Jack Cody: No, thank you.
  • Buck's Wife: You sure? We got time...
  • Jack Cody: No, thank you, *ma'am*.
  • Buck's Wife: You got a problem?
  • Jack Cody: [smirking] Lady, after a while, a fella learns things. Some women are trouble.
  • Buck's Wife: Suit yourself.
  • [goes into the house, pissed]
  • Jack Cody: I always do.
  • Rita Mailer: Damn you. Why'd you have to kill him?
  • Earl Macklin: He owed me money.
  • Mailer: You give out my number again and I'll retire you with flowers.
  • Earl Macklin: You're dead anyway, now or later.
  • Earl Macklin: How you been?
  • Bett Harrow: Fine. No, not fine. Lonely.
  • Jake Menner: The Outfit's gonna break his ass.
  • Bett Harrow: They were going to cut my face. Not kill me, just cut my face up. They showed me a razor. They were at the club every night. They knew where I lived. They used to sit in front of my apartment, this guy in a car watching me. You know how they are, Earl. It's like they own the world.
  • Bett Harrow: Earl? Don't hurt him anymore.
  • Earl Macklin: He tried to kill me. Why shouldn't I hurt him?
  • Jack Cody: Well what are you lookin' at?
  • Earl Macklin: It's your ugly face, you shit kicker.
  • Jake Menner: We got a problem.
  • Mailer: Nope. No, you got a problem.
  • Alma Macklin: You'll be shot down like he was, like a dog in the gutter. Your time's used up. Eddie knew it - why don't you?
  • Madge Coyle: Take a load off Cody and have a beer.
  • Alma Macklin: Money won't do me any good. He's dead and in the ground, God rest him. It won't do you any good either. What do you want it for? You got a woman. You got time. That won't satisfy you.
  • Anita O'Day: [singing] Love's young dream never comes true...
  • Jack Cody: You hold it right there. Go on back and chop them ribs.
  • Earl Macklin: I don't talk to guys wearing aprons. Get Sinclair.
  • Jack Cody: Don't need the girl.
  • Earl Macklin: What?
  • Jack Cody: We don't need the girl.
  • Earl Macklin: It's like I told you, this time around, that she's with me.
  • Jack Cody: Start worrying about the girl, might forget about your work.
  • Jim Sinclair: I'm supposed to send a slugger, I send a slugger. Know what I mean?
  • Jack Cody: You know, before when we started, I didn't give a damn. Now I'm scared I'm going to get my ass shot off. It's taking all the fun out of it.
  • Jack Cody: You know, a man's got to change his routine every so often. Hell, nobody's luck holds forever.
  • Earl Macklin: I don't want this cracker asshole following me around the country with a shot gun. Next time, I'll kill him.
  • Jack Cody: You ought to talk to that brother of your about his manners.
  • Kimmie Cherney: Hey! Don't you worry about him. It's that damn bitch he's married to.
  • Mailer: Get in the car.
  • Rita Mailer: Why should I?
  • Mailer: In the car.
  • Rita Mailer: I don't want to.
  • Mailer: Get in the car.
  • Rita Mailer: Alright. But I'm not listening to any God damn football game!
  • Mailer: he red-head's my wife, Rita. We've been married a year. She's not very smart but, she treats me right. She treats me just fine. You know what I mean?
  • Earl Macklin: I know what you mean.
  • Mailer: Sure you do. You know what I'm talking about.
  • Mailer: [on the phone, Rita nearby, nonchalantly reading a magazine] He pulls a God damn fire alarm and you miss him? Shut up! The guy got close to me, do you understand that? He could have reached out and touched me and I want his ass wrapped in cellophane! You got that? In cellophane! Well if you need soldiers, import 'em, but I want him dead!
  • [slams the phone down]
  • Mailer: Dead.
  • Earl Macklin: Take off your shoes. Every time I tell you to open that safe and you say "no," I'm going to shoot off one of your toes.
  • Mailer: Hard guy. You think you're Dillinger. You're nothing but a God damned independent. A heist guy. You got no operation. You go around sticking up banks. What kind of operation is that?
  • Jim: Don't you know who runs this place?
  • Jack Cody: I don't give a rat's ass if your mother runs it!
  • Bett Harrow: All I do is, is, sit around motel rooms and wonder whether or not you've gotten killed. Someday, I'll be sitting here and you'll get killed and I won't even know. You just won't come back.
  • Earl Macklin: Don't ever touch this gun again.
  • Bett Harrow: You and your God damn gun!
  • Earl Macklin: Don't ever touch this gun again.
