The Ghost Busters (1975)

Trivia

The Ghost Busters

Edit
The producers decided it would be cheaper to hire an actor who already owned a gorilla suit than having to pay for both separately, so they put out a casting call for gorillas. They found Bob Burns, a film editor who, together with his wife, had made a gorilla suit in their spare time. When Lou Scheimer asked Burns, dressed in the suit who his agent was, Bob replied: "Tarzan" and Lou knew that he had found the right man for the job.
In the book "Creating the Filmation Generation", Lou Scheimer recounts that Larry Storch was a connoisseur of fine liquors and Forrest Tucker a hard drinking man. As part of their contracts, Storch wanted two gallon jugs of white wine any time they shot, and Tucker a case of beer. After two weeks, Tucker wanted Jack Daniels instead of beer. Lou said "They would start out drunk and get sober by the end of the shoot".
The scenes in each episode where Spencer and Tracy collect their ghost busting assignment were filmed outside Lechler's Grocery and Hardware Store in Piru, California. On the DVD, Lou Scheimer notes that 13 of those scenes were filmed in one fell swoop on a very hot summer day in 1975.
The series was unrelated to Ghostbusters (1984) (though Columbia Pictures did pay Filmation for a license to use the title). Like the film, the series spawned its own animated sequel in 1986. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis did not know about this show when they wrote their original story. It wasn't until after production had begun and the release of the movie was announced that they found out, so they had to make a deal to get the rights to the name. In the course of their dealings, they did not lock down the animation rights and Filmation produced their own cartoon based on this series, Ghostbusters (1986).
The ghost in the opening credits was played by Lane Scheimer, son of producer Lou Scheimer. According to Lou in the book "Creating the Filmation Generation", Lane was the only person on set taller than Forrest Tucker. Therefore, his father employed Lane as Tucker's stand-in during production of this series.
