      A diluted mix.

To paraphrase Rod Serling..."Picture if you will, a 70's film with funk music, Blaxploitation elements, soft-core porn, and martial arts." Sounds like it should be a winner, pity that it wasn't.

Hammy martial arts fighting that looked like out-takes from a low budget Hong Kong turkey.

      Typical gangster posturing.

The music wasn't bad. But it WAS monotonous eventually.

And the sex scenes did seem real. They were filmed 'soft' though. This is NOT a hard X.

A simple case of too many cooks (in this case, plot elements) spoiling the broth.

Watchable, yes. But mostly due to its rarity.

A lot of fun in 3D

After reviewing a few Deep Vision movies, I decided to give my 2 cents on this one. Originally titled "Black Lolita", this movie bombed at the box office and was quickly re-edited with new softcore sex scenes as Wildcat Women (a Charlie's Angels meets Shaft ripoff). Like the other review says, the DVD cut doesn't make much sense.

I saw a faded (almost black and white) and scratched 35mm print of this movie recently and I must say it's quite different in theaters. The confusing thing about the Pathfinder DVDs of the Deep Vision movies is that not only did they trim the sex for the "Unrated Director's Cut", they also cut out parts of the plot (even though they aren't explicit) and they moved scenes around. This movie is a lot of fun because of the car chases, shootouts, and bizarre sex.

I talked to the director and he said this movie was originally edited pretty fast - so fast that he had to re-do the soundtrack (which is pretty good including the theme song). The story is about a girl named Lolita who seeks out revenge on the Buddha - a mob boss who kills her uncle for not paying protection fees. On the DVD cut, there are some parts that don't make sense - such as characters that randomly appear, but you kind of have to roll with it.

As I mention in some of my other reviews this movie was shot by Steve Gibson using his own 3D lens, very little money, and very little production help making it - so don't expect it to look like some big Hollywood movie.

This movie is a lot of fun to watch after a few beers with some friends over. It's a lot of fun to heckle and make wise crack jokes at. The DVD is since out of print, but if you can find it, definitely pick it up. Especially if you are a Mystery Science Theater 3000 Fan. Too bad they didn't get their hands on this one or they would have had a field day!

"The last laugh" in exploitation films

I recently had the pleasure of viewing this lost classic in glorious 3-D at a midnight movie showing, not knowing what to expect but certainly not coming out disappointed. I do believe that somewhere in this badly shot, acted, and mic'd film there was a plot, but that's very secondary here. A film like "Wildcat Women" (aka "Black Lolita") these days is merely an excuse to have a good laugh at something so incredibly bad it's damn good. Highlights include: hilarious dialogue (when it's audible), lots of gratuitous nudity (some good, some unpleasant), outrageously bad "car chase" scenes, and 3-D effects so bad that the theatre was in awe at how good a piece of inanimate shrubbery looked in three dimension, truly a highlight special effects moment. The film does drag a bit in the middle, but a hilariously inept shootout finale redeems all. If you're in a town where you have access to films like this, be sure and check your midnight movie listings for this little gem. If a bad movie is your idea of a good time, you will not be disappointed!

Imagine a porn film lacking its basic element...

The 3-D Vision "Wildcat Women" would give even the most astute spectator a difficult time comprehending its plot direction. In summary, a young black girl's (who mysteriously shafeshifts throughout "key" moments)uncle is murdered by a group of hoodlums, headed by an Asian man named "Buddha," who is more of a foreigned stereotype than an actor. She and her friends seek the help of a black radical, whom uses his abilities to disguise himself to help the girls out. Stop! The rest of the film is mostly indecipherable, with random and minimal insertions of sex scenes (hilariously flawed continuity)as well as a cheesy finale, with blood that most closely resembles that of breakfast condiments. I was growing irritable of the way my 3-D glasses kept unfolding a popping off, as I usually do. But it is one thing to watch a "3-Dized" print of Casablanca and a piece of trash like this. The only appeal of "Wildcat Women" is its blatant use of racist rhetoric, and a few frank one-liners, such as, "I was gettin' jealous at first, but now I wouldn't mind a three-some" (one of the black villians who after sleeping with the black girl whom seeks revenge goes into an adjacent room and spots a hot young white girl). Poor editing, atrocious plot/character development, and dialogue the mentally insane wouldn't find pleasing constitute "Wildcat Women." Advice to the filmmakers on their next outing (unlikely to happen)- include much more sex and take advantage of 3-D vision, having a character comment on how thirsty he is and thrusting a soda in the direction of the camera 5-6 times is not originality. Also, please don't petition Laemlles Theatre on Sunset to screen anymore of your films, I'm always dragged out there by my friend Jon, and end up paying $7.00 for nothingness.
