Samuel West (Prince Albert Victor Edward) and Joseph West (Prince George) are the real life sons of Timothy West (King Edward VII).
Helen Ryan (Princess Alexandra) later reprised her role in The Elephant Man (1980) and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1994).
On the DVD commentary, Writer and Director John Gorrie explained how it took a great deal of persuasion to convince Annette Crosbie to accept the role of Queen Victoria. Crosbie was reluctant because she felt she had done quite enough television during that time, and also, she was starring in a play about the Bronte sisters, which was supposedly going to come in to London. That play never did come into London, and Crosbie was glad she had changed her mind and accepted the role, which turned out to be a great success and "such fun to do".
Annette Crosbie (Queen Victoria) appeared in ten of the series' thirteen episodes, more than anyone else. In second place is Timothy West (King Edward VII), who appeared in nine episodes.
