Adapted from the stage version produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, with largely the same cast.
Jennie Linden, who plays Thea Elvsted in this movie, also played Glenda Jackson's sister in Women in Love (1969). Jackson was nominated for Oscars for both movies, winning for the former.
The film represents Glenda Jackson's fourth and final Best Actress Oscar nomination.
