Victim's following movements noted: Mayfair Hotel doorman said, identified subject came out of the hotel immediately. Walked away carrying black suitcase. Time: 4pm. Witness reports girl answering Elizabeth Short's description entered bus station; deposited black suitcase in locker, and left; time: 4:30pm. Subject returns to hotel at 5pm. Seen over next several hours, waiting. Waiting. Waiting for who? We'll never know. Miss Hazel George, on duty at Western Union desk in lobby: between 8 and 9:30pm Elizabeth several times walked to the desk, asked if there was any messages for her. There was no telegrams. No messages, no calls. Nobody.
- [Elizabeth leaves hotel]
- Sgt. Harry Hansen: Cabdriver: sees Elizabeth come out of the Mayfair, 9:30pm. She's alone. He thinks he has a fare, but she ignores him
- [cabdriver opens car door]
- Sgt. Harry Hansen: . It was her all right, them were the clothes - no mistake. And the hair, he says. He remembers the beautiful, black hair.
- [Elizabeth walks past the cab and disappears into the darkness as cabbie's eyes follow her]
- Sgt. Harry Hansen: You're the last pair of human eyes to see her alive. Which way did she go? That's all he knew - just south on 7th.
- Sgt. Harry Hansen: [standing over the mutilated corpse] Lady - what the hell could you do to make ANYBODY that mad?
