Trail of the Pink Panther (1982)

Trivia

Trail of the Pink Panther

Edit
The actor who played Clouseau in scenes shot after Peter Sellers's death was John Taylor, who doubled Sellers in The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu (1980).
Before Peter Sellers's death, two drafts had been written for another Pink Panther film entitled "Romance of the Pink Panther". When Sellers died, the project was cancelled.
This movie is dedicated to Peter Sellers and was marketed as a tribute to him. The dedication states: "To Peter . . . the one and only Inspector Clouseau."
Peter Sellers's widow, Lynne Frederick, won a $1,475,000 lawsuit against the makers of this film. She said the film insulted Sellers's memory.
In spite of the screenplay credits for Frank Waldman and Tom Waldman, the two actually contributed nothing to the script. Their credit was solely as a result of usage of the deleted scenes from The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) (to which the latter made some uncredited contributions).

Cameo

David Niven: As Sir Charles Litton, a role he had not played since The Pink Panther (1963). Christopher Plummer played Litton in The Return of the Pink Panther (1975). Niven was 73 years old when he appeared in this movie. Niven filmed his scenes for this movie and Curse of the Pink Panther (1983) at the same time, due to his ill health. His voice was so weak that professional celebrity impressionist Rich Little was hired to dub Niven's voice.
Julie Andrews: Writer, producer, and director Blake Edwards' wife as a Charwoman.
