    The Master Control Program (MCP) brought Kevin Flynn into the digital world because it recognized that he was a user with advanced hacking skills and believed he could help the MCP gain access to the Pentagon's computer system. The MCP hoped to use this access to take over the world's computer systems and achieve ultimate power.



    The one source this author has heard confirmation from is the audio commentary. Good directors almost never make things up in audio commentaries, so this author trusts that.
