For years, CBS tried to persuade "Peanuts" creator Charles M. Schulz to do a "Peanuts" animated TV series, but Schulz steadfastly refused, because he did not want anyone else other than himself to write the stories for such series. Eventually, Schulz was convinced by CBS, but only on the condition that the series be based strictly on stories from his strip. (Schulz himself would also write all-new stories especially for the series). This series was that result.
The intro shows a compilation of footage from earlier Peanuts television specials and feature films, very few includes new footage from episodes of the series.
When the shows were sold on video cassette in the 1990s, they added a card that showed the names of each story in the episode.
Some Episodes aired on Nickelodeon in 1998 in You're on Nickelodeon Charlie Brown.
Some of the skits were taken from the Peanuts Aladdin lunch box that was on sale in the 1980s.
