In one scene, a character is seen reading the book "In Praise of the Sensitive Man and Other Essays" (1976) by Anaïs Nin. She was a great admirer of the work of writer-director Henry Jaglom and dedicated part of this book to praising his film A Safe Place (1971).
The movie is ''set mostly within a 10-block radius of the Museum of Natural History'' according to film critic Janet Maslin in her review for the film published in 'The New York Times' on 8th December 1983.
