FAQ

High Road to China

FAQ

We're not told very much about what Tozer's actual business was with the company he founded with Bentik, but we can put a few clues together to get an answer: Tozer's company was probably a manufacturing corporation that may have invented products and/or bought patents and formulas from inventors and produced them.

Though we're never told why he left, Tozer simply assumed Bentik would continue running it for him. From the way Tozer talks to O'Malley later, Bentik ran the company in a very poor fashion and began to keep a lot of money for himself BUT a large portion of what the company earned was going to Evie. Hence Bentik's plan to seize what was left of the manufacturing portion and cut Evie off.

When Tozer talks to O'Malley he tells him that before he'd disappeared he'd enacted legal proceedings to have the company's real wealth -- which is not in sales of the products they produced but in the concepts and ideas spelled out in the formulas & patents Tozer owned -- to his daughter. Because Tozer planned so well ahead, Evie's future was secured.
