The film features husband-and-wife actor and actress Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. The movie debuted in 1984, which was the year that followed the couple's 25th wedding anniversary in 1983, and was the first film the pair appeared in together after this matrimonial milestone had been celebrated.
The talking parrots, heard in the movie, were voiced by humans.
In a 1997 interview with Conan O'Brien, film critic Gene Siskel identified staying at the same hotel as Robby Benson, just after slating his performance in this movie, as one of the most awkward moments of his career. (Their daughters became friendly but the two men did not acknowledge each other.)
The building seen at the construction site in the movie which is demolished was the hotel "The Inn", a sister affiliate to The Gulf Stream Hotel in Lake Worth, Florida.
