Bitter hatred has always existed between two Rajput families, namely those of Bharat Singh and Prithviraj Singh, resulting in the death of Bharat's nephew. Years later, Prithviraj's son Dharamraj marries Sunaina, who gives birth to a baby boy named Deshraj. On Deshraj's 10th birthday, Prithviraj goes to make peace with Bharat and invites him for a birthday party, which Bharat attends, but there is no end to the animosity--which results in the death of Prithviraj when his chauffeur, Chandu, is bribed and manipulated by Bharat and his men. Beside himself with anger, Dharamraj poisons Chandu and sends Deshraj to the U.S. to live in a safer atmosphere as her continues his studies. Years later, Deshraj returns home and meets and falls in love with a young woman named Leela, who is none other than Chandu's daughter. Fearing for his son's life, Dharamraj proposes peace with Bharat and would like his son to marry Bharat's daughter Padmini. When Deshraj refuses to marry Padmini, Dharamraj is beside himself with anger and has Leela abducted and imprisoned. Deshraj must now make a choice: he can marry Padmini and ensure peace between the two families, or he can elope with Leela and live a life full of fear and uncertainty, not knowing when they will be killed, and whether it will be at the hands of Bharat or Dharamraj.

Sunil Dutt and Pran shines in this dull, predictable and mediocre film!!

Laila is a romantic drama directed by late Saawan Kumar. The film stars Late Sunil Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Anita Raj and Late Pran. A young boy was sent away for higher studies in order to protect him from a rival family&#39;s wrath however upon his return, he falls in love with a girl who is the daughter of the enemy. This modern day version of Mughal-e-Azam offers nothing new. The film has cliched scenes, predictable storyline, predictable screenplay and mediocre dialogues. Acting in the film is decent to average with Sunil Dutt Pran and Anita Raaj were impressive whereas Anil Kapoor though a talented star looked nervous and disconnected so as Poonam Dhillon. Screenplay of the film is mediocre and predictable and climax is also bad. Music of the film is forgettable. The film offers nothing new and can be avoided.
