A sex scene midway through the film with Traci Lords, playing the Devil, and Rick Cassidy (as an angel) was permanently removed when the "scandal" about Traci's age broke in 1986. However, in Germany, Traci's popularity as a porn star continued unabated. The age of consent (16) meant that all of her films and videos were legal within Germany (and other European countries) and many of them, including New Wave Hookers, continue to be sold there.
Ginger Lynn, who played the NWHooker servicing frat boys Tom Byron & Steve Powers replaced Traci Lords on the VHS box cover and subsequent VCA video posters after Traci was discovered to be under 18 at the time of shooting.
Traci Lords voice was dubbed into the sound effects during Ginger Lynn's scene with Tom Byron and his other frat brother.
Paul Hugli's 1994 book "The Traci Lords Companion" claims that an official soundtrack album was released on vinyl, cassette & CD. If this is true, copies are now so scarce most fans of the film have never actually come across one.
The Los Angeles adult entertainment industry documentary "Fallen Angels" includes footage of New Wave Hookers' premiere at Hollywood's Pussycat Theater, attended by Traci Lords, Kristara Barrington and other cast and crew.
