The Return of the Living Dead (1985)

FAQ

The Return of the Living Dead

FAQ

You can call it an unofficial sequel. Frank (James Karen) explains that the events of Night of the Living Dead (1968) were based on a true case, but sufficiently fictionalized to avoid censorship from the Army brass. The U.S. Army covered up the true story--and the events in this film are a sequel to what (supposedly) really happened.

Unfortunately, the workprint does not have too many surprises in store. However, there is a lot of alternative (yet unspectacular) footage, many scene extensions and, above all, more dialogue. The new scenes between Frank and Freddy are top notch. It really is a shame that those did not make it on the DVD as deleted scenes and thus can only be seen in the workprint. Whoever expects longer or extended gore scenes in the workprint will be disappointed. Apart from one or two exceptions, the workprint even contains less gore. Plainly and simply because all the gory close-ups had not been shot yet.
