Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari in Bosom Buddies (1980)

Trivia

Bosom Buddies

Edit
In summer 1984, Splash (1984) made Tom Hanks a household name. NBC bought the rights to the ABC sitcom and re-aired select episodes to lead off their Saturday night line-up.
The theme song for the opening credits was Billy Joel's "My Life," although it was a re-recorded version with Gary Bennett as the vocalist and Mike Luca on piano. Some reruns shown in syndication (such as when USA Network aired reruns, as well as its later runs on MeTV) and all home video and DVD releases, use a vocal version of the show's end credit instrumental theme, "Shake Me Loose," performed by Stephanie Mills, for the opening credits, replacing "My Life."
Cast member Telma Hopkins was in the music group Tony Orlando and Dawn as a vocalist. She showcases her singing talents in many Bosom Buddies episodes. In the episode "One For You, One For Me", in which Kip goes to jail, Telma Hopkins makes a reference to tying a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree in front of their building. "Tie A Yellow Ribbon ('Round The Ole Oak Tree)" was Tony Orlando and Dawn's biggest hit single.
Tom Hanks met his future wife, Rita Wilson when she made a guest appearance in this series in "All You Need Is Love" in 1981, but both were in other relationships at the time. They began dating a few years later when they met again on the set of Volunteers (1985).
In an interview in TV Guide, Donna Dixon explained how she landed the role of Sonny, her acting debut. She knew that as an unknown she would be competing against a lot of women. To stand out, she wore a bright red tracksuit to the audition.
