Shabana Azmi and Rajesh Khanna in Thodisi Bewafaii (1980)

Family drama - most of the time nice but has its share of loopholes

This film is about an accidental separation of a young couple. The general portrayal of the story is fine, but the film is marred by several problems of credibility and overblown emotions. How can Rajesh Khanna's and Shabana's son be so mature at 14, fighting with other guys like a superman (my least favourite scene in the film shortly before the end of the film), romancing a young girl and singing a song with her (the voice of the singer who sings for him is way ahead of the boy's age).

There are scenes which are realistic and charming, but there are such which are overdone and unconvincing. The character of Urmila Bhatt is an extremely irritating one, and she is plastic with her cliché dialogues and victimising attitude.

Otherwise the film is nice. Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi act well and some of their scenes together are pure magic. Azmi in particular is interesting; considering the fact that she is known for her realistic films, it's a pleasant paradox watching her in an unrestrained melodramatic mainstream film (she did many such films, but it's still engaging).

The music is good, the cinematography is fine, the locations and the urban settings are well chosen.

Watch it, but be prepared to get mixed feelings about it.

Restrained divorce melodrama

Rating

6/10

Watchable divorce melodrama with restrained yet emotional performances by Azmi and Khanna being the highlight of the film. Many of their dialogues have the ring of truth. However the rest of the film with the exception of Sriram Lagoo feels ordinary with the usual cinematic clichés. Long but never boring.

Love for the family more than the spouse, brings trouble sometimes, which can ruin two families and one couple's life

A movie with good message. In fact I liked the message. Rajesh Khanna, is the all time legend, he is the life of this movie, he proves he is the best. Otherwise, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It seems to me, I am watching two movies. Starts with a courtroom decision and than get back to the flashbacks, then the director may be changed or switched to another movie. The story should have come back to the present, that is when the judge announce the decision, but going back the flashbacks, the movie story never come back to the present. Most unnecessary, the kid pair duet song. how stupidity.

The message is, you should give priority your own family rather than your parents family. Rajesh Khanna loves Shabana Azmi whereas he also loves his father family and his siblings more than his wife. On the other hand, Shabana Azmi sacrifices her husbands family and her earnings for her father family and her younger brother. Both departed.

a nice family drama with social message

This movie is about how Person's suspicion, pride, anger, arrogance, stubborn can ruin the life.In this movie Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi has given one of the finest acting for the role which i think no one can give full justice. This movie shows that in the life of husband's and wife's there are many ups and down but they should always trust each other, alwasy stand for each other and also give lesson to especially wife's that the husband family is also her family and she should always stand by them like she would stand by her own family.

In this movie arun kumar and nima are both in love with each other and get married.due to some mistake arun kumar lost his fortune and his father as well and begin living poor life.In this time also arun kumar duly does his role as good husband for his wife and a good son, brother for his step mother, sisters and brother by working hard.A rift begin between arun ,nima and her step mother because of their rude neighbor.one days nima's brother sees him with another woman and thinking he is cheating on her leaves him without thinking. Then for custody of the son nima takes arun to court and gets custody.even in this time also arun tries to reconcile with her but due to her arrogance, pride, anger, stubborn she doesn't care eventhough she still loves him. What happens after this is shown in movie. The main problem in this movie is nima being dependent upon her family even after being separated from her husband. She could have done some work for living but she is shown to be dependent upon her father, brother for living and raising her son. The story seems a bit unrealistic but it succeed in conveying the message. My rating is 8 out of 10.
