Some of the river and riverfront scenes were shot in Henry, Illinois on the Illinois river as the location offered a natural setting unspoiled by modern power lines,etc. Extras were recruited from the town and the Henry-Senachwine High school.

Goofs
Scenes in Henry,IL showing a 50 star US flag on the steamboat had to be re-shot as there were not 50 states back in the 1800's time period of the movie.
