The movie was a commercial failure at the box-office according to an article "Penn Goes Commercial But Still Keeps Personal Edge On 'Target'-" published in the 13th November 1985 issue of show-business trade-paper 'Variety'. Director Arthur Penn did not make another movie after 'Four Friends' (1981) for four years until 'Target' (1985).
The movie was predominantly filmed in two American states of the USA: Illinois and Indiana.
Reportedly, actor Gary Sinise apparently had an uncredited role in the picture.
Some movie posters for the film featured a long blurb that read: ''From immigrant passions fired in steel mills...to the icy power of the super-rich. Through the hopes and the heartbreaks...the flowers and the flames. Nothing that happened in America could break their bond.''
