An extra in the film Nellie ,(of Iranian descent),was rumored to be the reason Amitabh and Rekha had a break up/fight during Laawaris. Nellie was not the dancer in Apni To Jaise Taise as reported on many sites. Nilli full name was Naaz Bakhtiar. She was the niece of for Prime Minister of Iran,Shapour Bakhtiar. She was also the niece of actress Soraya Esfandiary-Bakhtiary.
Raakhee had previously faced flak for her dress sense in the song Pyar zindagi hain in Muqadar Ka Sikander. During the making of Laawaris, filmaker Prakash Mehra, made sure that the dress Raakhee wore during the song Mere angne mein, suited her. This song was Alka Yagnik's first hit song.
Director Prakash Mehra had based the film on himself. Despite having a father, he always looked at himself as a orphan.
Parveen Babi was first signed for Zeenat Aman's role. She shot for the first schedule then dropped out of the film due go her illness.
The song Mere Angane Mein is a old Indian folk song that first appeared in the 1970 film Bombay Talkies. It was also used in the 1975 film "Maze Le Lo". In the film actor Naresh Kanodia performs the song on stage.
