‘Wkrp In Cincinnati’ Star Loni Anderson, Who Was Burt Reynolds Ex-Wife, Dies At 79
Image
Loni Anderson died on August 3, a few days before her 80th birthday on August 5.

Anderson’s longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, said that Anderson had been battling a “prolonged” illness and died at a Los Angeles hospital. Anderson’s family also released a statement, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother.”

Anderson was born to environmental chemist Klaydon Anderson and model Maxine Hazel in 1954. Starting her four-decade musical theater career at the age of 10, Anderson’s first Hollywood role saw her in the 1966 western, Nevada Smith. The movie did not succeed in attracting her attention as an actress, and her career struggled in the following years. In a 2007 interview, Anderson told Ability magazine, “Look up the definition of rejection in the dictionary… get really comfortable with it, and then maybe you can go into acting.”

Loni Anderson Dies: Emmy-Nominated ‘Wkrp In Cincinnati’ Star Was 79
Image
Loni Anderson, the twice Emmy-nominated star of Wkrp in Cincinnati, has died at the age of 79, days before her 80th birthday.

Her cause of death was “an acute prolonged illness,” her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, told Deadline.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,” Anderson’s family said in a statement.

Anderson is best known for her role as the clever receptionist Jennifer Marlowe in CBS’ sitcom about the eccentric staff of a struggling Top 40 rock radio station in Ohio. Created by Hugh Wilson, the multi-cam comedy ran from 1978 through 1982, and Anderson’s ultra-capable employee appeared in all but one of the series’ 90 episodes. Her vivacious character cemented her as a bona fide TV sex symbol and subverted stereotypical “dumb blonde” tropes, as Jennifer remained savvy among a team of often incompetent coworkers, refusing to do typical receptionist chores like fetch coffee or take dictation.

Tina Fey Responds to Rumors She's Rebooting The Golden Girls With Amy Poehler
Image
Comedy icon and 30 Rockcreator Tina Fey shoots down rumors of a remake of The Golden Girls.

Per People, Fey responded to a fan-made poster for a The Golden Girls remake starring her alongside Amy Poehler, Lisa Kudrow, and Maya Rudolph. "Oh, this. I did know about this," Fey said after being shown the poster, which originally circulated the internet in 2024. "I like that this was fooling people. Like, why would we ever take a picture where Amy and Lisa Kudrow are in costume, but we're not?" Fey added, "If this fooled you, you might be a Boomer. And if you're Gen X, and this fooled you, go to a hospital. I would never touch this. This is too perfect. The original is ... those ladies can't be touched."

Created by Susan Harris, The Golden Girls premiered back in 1985 and quickly established itself as the then-latest hit sitcom. The series broke new...

NCIS star teases challenging "leadership changes" ahead of season 22 finale
Image
NCIS is staying strong. It was one of the rare procedural dramas that was granted an early renewal by CBS, amidst the network's flurry of cancelations. An early renewal not only gives the fans a chance to relax, knowing there's more to come, but it gives the showrunners and writers a chance to take risks come the season finale.

This is the kind of approach that is being taken with NCIS' upcoming season finale. Diona Reasonover, the actress who plays forensics scientist Kasie Hines, told TV Insider that the finale is going to make some notable changes with regard to leadership and the overall dynamics between characters.

NCIS will focus more on "long term" stories “Empty Nest” – NCIS searches for a missing undercover agent in the midst of an active hostage situation, on the 22nd season premiere of the CBS Original series NCIS, Monday, Oct. 14 on the CBS Television Network,...

Robert Trebor, who portrayed the serial killer known as the Son of Sam in a CBS telefilm and the scheming merchant Salmoneus on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and its sister series, Xena: Warrior Princess, has died. He was 71.

Trebor died March 11 at Los Angeles Medical Center of sepsis, his wife, Deirdre Hennings, told The Hollywood Reporter. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012 and had a stem-cell transplant a year later, she said.

NCIS Season 22 Resolving Its Biggest Case Paves The Way For McGee's Clamored Promotion
Image
Spoiler Alert for NCIS season 22, episode 9, "Humbug"

While Timothy McGee failed to get a promotion in NCIS season 22, he may still be able to secure one if the Major Case Response Team (McRt) solves their mole case. In NCIS season 22, episode 1, "Empty Nest," Parker finds an empty bullpen because his agents are occupied. McGee factors into that, noting he has an interview on the hill to secure the promotion to NCIS deputy director, citing that he wants the regular hours that come with the job.

McGee lost out on the opportunity despite NCIS Director Leon Vance putting in a good word. The promotion went to Department of Justice Inspector General Gabrielle Laroche, who butts heads with the agency. To complicate things, Tim suspects that Gabrielle Laroche is the mole responsible for leaking information about Nick Torres' undercover operation to the Nexus cartel. Tim investigates Gabrielle Laroche in NCIS season 22,...

NCIS Season 22 Just Reintroduced McGee's Best Leverage Against McRt
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for NCIS season 22.Timothy McGee has a big problem in NCIS. Sean Murray's character was vying for the promotion to NCIS deputy director in NCIS season 22, episode 1, "Empty Nest." McGee failed to secure the promotion, losing the position to former Department of Defense Inspector General Gabrielle Laroche. McGee's aspirations revealed that Parker's senior field agent feels he's outgrown his Major Case Response Team (McRt) rank. Still, there's relatively little growth for McGee outside a promotion to director or deputy director, which isn't currently in the cards.

McGee decided to advance his career after a six-month time gap following the NCIS season 21 finale. The senior field agent initially turned down a promotion to lead McRt following the exit of Agent in Charge Gibbs, citing that he didn't want the desk job. Still, McGee's brief stint as temporary NCIS director in the 1000th episode of NCIS may have...

Hey, "NCIS" fans. Unfortunately, we have some very bad news to drop on you tonight. It turns out that the last episode 9 that aired last Monday night, December 16, 2024, was the Fall finale episode. So, the CBS people are not going to air the next, new episode 10 tonight, December 23, 2024 and for many more Monday nights to come. According to one of our sources, CBS doesn't plan to air the new episode 10 until Monday night, January 27, 2025 in its usual, 8 pm central standard time slot. NCIS Season 22 Has Its All-Time Lowest-Rated Episode (Blame CBS For It)
Image
CBS may have likely caused NCIS season 22 posting the show's lowest-rated episode ever. In the ever-changing way that people consume their entertainment, long-running shows like NCIS continuously raking in millions of viewers is very impressive. Granted that the numbers aren't exactly as massive as before, but the show has consistently been a top-rated performer for the network. Aside from building a massive following, NCIS has also established a shared universe with several spinoffs. That said, while it doesn't seem like the franchise is slowing down anytime soon, its recent numbers may be a cause for concern.

Currently, NCIS season 22 is the third longest-running scripted American series, only behind Law & Order: Svu season 26 and Law & Order season 24. It's an institution for CBS, and frankly, it's difficult to imagine what its programming would be like without the flagship. This is even after McRt has seen a series of casting changes in the last few years,...

Earl Holliman, Actor on ‘Police Woman,’ Dies at 96
Image
Earl Holliman, the actor best known for playing Angie Dickinson’s boss on the 1970s NBC cop drama Police Woman, has died. He was 96.

Holliman died Monday in hospice care at his home in Studio City, his spouse, Craig Curtis, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Holliman won a best supporting actor Golden Globe for portraying Katharine Hepburn’s girl-crazy kid brother in The Rainmaker (1956) — he beat out Elvis Presley for the role — and then appeared in another Burt Lancaster film, as Wyatt Earp’s assistant in Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957).

In the George Stevens epic Giant (1956), the Louisiana native played the son-in-law of Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson’s characters, was the cook in Forbidden Planet (1956) and appeared as the brother of John Wayne, Dean Martin and Michael Anderson Jr. in Henry Hathaway’s The Sons of Katie Elder (1965).

Holliman also portrayed a man with amnesia in a deserted town...

10 Actors Who Played Different Characters In NCIS
Image
The NCIS franchise is a massive institution, so its no wonder some actors have played multiple characters within its expansive storyline. It would throw off the narrative in most television shows to have the same person appear as different characters, with many only running for a few years. However, NCIS rich tapestry of more than two decades on television allows actors to weave in and out of the narrative as different NCIS characters seamlessly. Moreover, the fact that NCIS has so many spinoffs means some actors can always show up on a different show as a new character.

The franchise has tackled over a thousand cases between NCIS and its many spinoff shows, meaning there have been thousands of opportunities to play a character attached to a weekly case. The television institution continues to grow, expanding opportunities for its favorite actors to return without compromising the integrity of its complex web of narratives.

Spoiler Alert for NCIS season 22, episode 5, "In From the Cold"

NCIS season 22, episode 5 features a case that forces McRt to deal with a supposed Cold War spy. Eventually, all of them made their way back to Navy Yard.

The premiere introduces NCIS season 22's new villain, Gabriel Laroche, a new character played by Seamus Dever. Laroche poses a massive threat to NCIS and national security. The Thursday Night NBC Plunged Itself Into Darkness
Image
“The One with the Blackout,” the seventh episode of “Friends’” inaugural season, was notable for several reasons. It first introduced viewers to both the gang’s miserly broomstick-waving neighbor Mr. Heckles and Ross’ first rival for Rachel’s affections, Italian stallion Paolo. It apparently added the term ‘friend zone’ to the English lexicon as a result. And, as its title suggests, it formed part of an ingenious marketing strategy in which three NBC sitcoms were deliberately plunged into darkness.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this month (November 3), Blackout Thursday was the brainwave of Dan Holm, a promotional producer also responsible for the term ‘Must See TV.’ Alongside the comedy that would prove to be the network’s most successful, the programming stunt also included one of the many forgettable one-seasoners that failed to ride its coattails, the Dabney Coleman-starring “Madman of the People,” and the 12-time Emmy-winning “Mad About You.

NCIS' Major Timothy McGee Choice & Future Explained
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for the NCIS season 22 premiere. At the end of its premiere, NCIS season 22 officially decides the fate of Timothy McGee in the Major Case Response Team. CBS' #1 procedural drama is back after the summer break with a riveting case that involved some creative time play. In NCIS season 22, episode 1, "Empty Nest," Alden Parker finds the bullpen empty, until Nick Torres' distress call forces him to reach out to Jessica Knight, who is already based in Camp Pendleton for help. In the end, the case is solved, but as it turns out, there's still a bigger problem out there, especially for McGee.

Currently, there are no more original cast members in the active roster of the show, leaving Sean Murray's McGee as the longest-serving active player in McRt. The character was introduced a few episodes after the NCIS pilot and was eventually promoted to a series regular.

NCIS Season 22 Premiere Review: Knight Fixes the Show's Biggest Problem
Image
The following contains major spoilers for NCIS Season 22, Episode 1, "Empty Nest," which debuted Monday, Oct. 14 on CBS.

The end of NCIS Season 21 was breaking up the band. NCIS Season 22, Episode 1, "Empty Nest" has one purpose: to undo the plot twists of the Season 21 finale, which included Jessica Knight's career opportunity and Timothy McGee having his eye on moving up the ladder. After all, if both Knight and McGee moved on, the CBS procedural would be down two cast members -- including one of its longest-serving regulars. The audience thus goes into "Empty Nest" knowing that certain things have to be resolved.

That doesn't keep the episode from being satisfying. "Empty Nest" picks up six months later, when both Knight and Nick Torres are working in California. Naturally, something happens to bring them -- and the rest of the team -- together. There are plenty of twists in this premiere,...

NCIS star Katrina Law explains the decision that her character, Jessica Knight, makes in the season 22 premiere episode. NCIS showrunner teases Jessica Knight's story in season 22: She gets into "fitting trouble"
Image
NCIS fans are eagerly awaiting the premiere of season 22, but it may be a hard one for Jessica Knight! Here’s what we know!

Season 21 was a tough for fans and not just because it was delayed for months by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. First, the team had to bid a sad farewell to Ducky (the late David McCallum). Then Jessica (Katrina Law) had her father drop by to help with a case, and it turned out that she had never told him that she was dating Jimmy (Brian Dietzen).

Jessica’s dad was near obsessed with making sure she stuck to “the plan” to keep up her career to eventually become NCIS director. That came up in the season finale when Jessica was offered a big promotion training the React team in San Diego. After she and Parker barely survived being locked in a sinking ship, Jessica agreed to take the job.

Emmy flashback: Let’s take a look at 17 of the most shocking upsets ever
Image
I laugh when I hear people talk about how “The Bear” is a sure thing winner for Best Comedy Series and that it’s such a lock nothing whatsoever can derail it. Ha! Ha I say! Oh, it’s naturally the heavy favorite with its 23 nominations and has remained the overwhelming frontrunner clear through Emmy season, all right. In the Gold Derby combined Emmy odds, it’s running away with this race. The same is true of ““Shōgun” for drama after its giant haul of 25 Emmy bids. And nothing can beat “Baby Reindeer” for Best Limited Series, right? Jessica Gunning (“Baby Reindeer”) is a shoo-in for limited supporting actress, isn’t she? And no one could possibly beat Jamie Lee Curtis (“The Bear”) for comedy guest actress – could they?

But if Emmy history has taught us anything, it’s that upsets happen, even when it comes to shows and people considered locks.

The Forgotten TV Crossover Episodes Only Geeks Will Remember
Image
Fans of ABC’s Abbott Elementary were thrilled to hear that a season 4 episode will feature a crossover event. Social media users immediately put on their thinking caps and speculated as to who would be making an appearance in the halls of the downtrodden Philadelphia grade school. Knowing the show is aired on a network owned by Disney, you can expect it to be someone in the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (here’s hoping Carmy or Syd from The Bear travel to Philly *fingers crossed*)

The TV crossover used to be a great way for networks to promote two shows at the same time, but as the streaming era took over the tendency to apply this advertising method has dwindled. We thought it would be a great time to look back on the TV crossovers that only small screen purists will remember. Some of these crossovers are old enough that even...

Image
Bob Tischler, the writer and producer known for his work on Saturday Night Live, has died. He was 78.

The former SNL head writer, who is largely credited with helping revive the NBC sketch comedy show after its infamously panned 1980-81 season, died on July 13 at his home in Bodega Bay, California.

His son Zeke told The New York Times that the cause of death was pancreatic cancer.

Born June 12, 1946 in Englewood, New Jersey, Tischler attended Ithaca and Franconia Colleges in the 1960s before working as a sound engineer in radio and television.

After working together on a radio ad, Christopher Guest recommended him to National Lampoon, for which he produced the albums Radio Dinner (1972), Gold Turkey (1975) and That’s Not Funny, That’s Sick (1977), as well as The National Lampoon Radio Hour in 1973.

Emmy Nominees for Multiple Series: Comedy Actor

In 2019, Don Cheadle received his ninth career Emmy nomination for his work on the first season of Showtime’s “Black Monday.” Although he ultimately came up short in that year’s Best Comedy Actor race, he still made history as the 12th man to compete in that category as the star of multiple series, having previously earned four bids for the same network’s “House of Lies.” Scroll through our photo gallery to find out who else belongs to this special group.

Seven of the dozen actors on this roster took the gold for at least one of their nominated roles. This includes Richard Mulligan and Michael J. Also listed is John Ritter (“Three’s Company”; “Hooperman”; “8 Simple Rules”), who remains the only three-show nominee in the history of either comedy lead category.

Daniel Burman’s ‘Transmitzvah’ Sings and Dances Its Way Into Cannes Cinéma de la Plage Screening
Image
Famed Argentine director Daniel Burman’s new feature “Transmitzvah,” his first in nearly eight years, will receive a Cinéma de la Plage world premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Burman first broke out internationally with a double Berlin Silver Bear win in 2004 for his fourth feature, “Lost Embrace,” and became one of Latin America’s most exportable box office draws in the following years. However, founding Oficina Burman, which was incorporated into The Mediapro Studio, his attention has shifted to creating and producing series for the past seven years, most notably Prime Video’s “Yosi, the Regretful Spy,” reckoned by many as the best title playing Berlinale Series in 2022.

“For 20 years, I made films. In my twenties, thirties, forties, I made a film every two years,” he recalled in a recent conversation with Variety. “Now, I went seven years only making series. When I went back to the...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From 1984's Night Court
Image
The NBC sitcom "Night Court" was a satirical take on the zany and chaotic underworld of the midnight shift at the courthouse. With an unconventional, free-loving judge at the helm of this circus, there's no telling what might happen. The series was such a massive hit that it ran for nine whole seasons, featuring a cast of relatively unknown actors that, when assembled, formed one of the most acclaimed ensembles of all time. The show won eight Primetime Emmys and was nominated no less than 32 times. "Night Court" won in a variety of categories, but the actor that ended up taking home the most gold was John Larroquette, who played egotistical D.A. Dan Fielding.

A "Night Court" reboot landed on NBC in 2023. Sadly, few members of the original cast are still around to reprise their old roles, and the show is comprised almost entirely of new characters. Harry Anderson,...

12 TV Shows With Way More Spinoffs Than You Think
Image
There are a number of TV shows that are known to have spawned other series, but some of these produced more spinoffs than are remembered. Among the forgotten spinoffs in the annals of TV history are the Friends follow-up show Joey and Mr. T and Tina, an offshoot of Welcome Back, Kotter that didn't even have anything to do with the famous Mr. T. Like these examples, many deserve to have fallen into obscurity. However, when a hit series does wind up with a successful spinoff or two, such as Cheers and Law & Order, it's worth recalling when they had other side shows or sequels that didn't pan out.

Not all forgotten spinoffs were failures, though. Some of these TV shows simply spawned niche follow-ups and by-products that only diehard fans are familiar with. Other spinoffs are merely forgotten as having originated with another show because they took off...

On the occasion of him being the filmmaker in focus in this year's Nyaff, the festival also presents his latest movie, “Redemption with Life”.

Redemption with Life is screening at New York Asian Film Festival

The movie begins with a motorcycle convoy riding in the Tibetan mountains, before a series of flashbacks brings us further and further back in time, examining the life story of three friends. Jianhua is essentially the protagonist, who used to work with Li Gang in an investment company that ended up losing the money from all the investors the former managed to convince to give him their money, and sending him to prison for two years. Film Review: Empty Nest (2020) by Zhang Wei
Image
Although not a clinical condition, Empty Nest syndrome is a feeling of grief and loneliness parents may feel when their children move out of the family home, such as to live on their own, which does result in negative psychological statuses for parents all over the world. Zhang Wei combines this concept with the growing concern about elderly in China living isolated lives and falling victims to a number of scams and their own loneliness, in order to come up with “Empty Nest”, a movie that is a drama as much as it is a comedy and a crime film.

Empty Nest is screening at New York Asian Film Festival

Based on the novel “The Empty Nest” by Xue Yiwei, the story focuses on Zhao Yimei, an elderly woman who lives alone, nursing the wounds of her husband's betrayal and being estranged from her son, in a series of events...
