Jason Marsden, Lee Meriwether, Howard Morton, John Schuck, and Hilary Van Dyke in The Munsters Today (1988)

Trivia

The Munsters Today

Edit
This incarnation actually had a longer run than the original classic series. It lasted one season longer and three episodes more.
John Schuck who plays Herman Munster had previously played the role of Frankenstein's Monster in the 1979 TV movie "The HalloweenThat Almost Wasn't", as had his predecessor Fred Gwynne in the original series of "The Munsters" his previous credit being for a TV commercial.
Guest star Sandy Barron (who played Grandpa's brother "Yorga" in several MT episodes) later played the role of "Grandpa" for made-for-TV Christmas special "The Munsters Scary Little Christmas" (1997) following the death of Howard Morton who had played the role since being cast in the 1987 pilot "Still Munsters After All These Years".
The producers contacted Al Lewis to see if he would like to reprise his role as Grandpa. He expressed interest but they demanded that he audition for the role and he felt insulted.
To save money on production costs, the set for much of the interior of the Munsters home is the same set (though heavily redecorated and remodeled) used for the Tate residence in the late 70's-early 80's sitcom 'Soap.' This is why the layout is "mirrored" from the original series.
