The probable answer is that, since virtually every film in the series is made by a completely different cast and crew, no one bothered to keep up with the continuity of the previous film. It's possible that the gloves and belt rotted away beneath the water, and that Jason's clothes were likewise discolored. In fact, the beginning of this film shows Jason with the gloves on, when Tina's father dies. Then when the film jumps ahead to the "present day". Jason's gloves are missing and his clothes and flesh are more rotted.

The camp's maintainers decided to capitalize on the notoriety of Jason Voorhees and changed the name back.

Two shots of a naked butt were too much for the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and had to be censored for the old VHS release. All cuts were waived for the DVD release.
