The action is now set in the US as we see from the American police officers investigating the murders. The studio were so impressed by the first film they decided it would have more commercial appeal if it was set in the US.
In the Extended Version one can find an additional dreaming sequence which Kirstey has to encounter right before she faces the Cenobites for the first time.
The Unrated Version features nearly six minutes of added footage, mostly violent scenes that were cut out for the R-Rated version. Sometimes alternate footage was used to ease the tone.
In the UK the movie was also released on VHS in a censored version, that is based on the R-Rated cut. For this VHS release by Columbia approx. Approximately 10 seconds of visual cuts were made, with a further 60 seconds or so of audio cuts/substitutions.
