Demi Moore in The Seventh Sign (1988)

FAQ

The Seventh Sign

FAQ

The Seventh Sign is based on a script by Clifford and Ellen Green.

The Bible does not include a definitive list of seven signs. Popular culture and various Christian sects created this concept based on their interpretations of events prophesied to take place before Armageddon, or the final battle of good and evil on Earth. The book of Revelation, which details the Apocalypse, speaks only of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Revelation 6:12 and the seven seals, seven vials, and seven trumpets that will signal the destruction of the earth. The seven seals are enumerated towards the end of the movie when Abby (Demi Moore) and Avi (Manny Jacobs) figure out what's going on. The seven seals are the four Horsemen, the death of the last martyr (5th seal), earthquakes and a blood moon (6th seal), and the birth of a baby without a soul (7th seal).

A blood moon can occur during an eclipse of the moon when the amount of dust particles in the earth's atmosphere causes the moon to take on a reddish color while in the earth's umbra.

The house is located on Palms Blvd near the beach in Santa Monica, California. The hospital scenes were shot in Pacoyma Hospital in Pacoyma, California. The rest of the movie was shot on Dominica Island, the "nature island" of the Caribbean. A close-up of St Joseph Village on the central west coast of Dominica appears at the beginning of the movie.

The Guf was not made up for this movie. In Jewish mysticism, the Guf is the Hall of Souls, located in the Seventh Heaven. Every human soul is said to emanate from the Guf. The Talmud teaches that the Messiah will not come until the Guf is emptied of all its souls, which is the basic premise for The Seventh Sign.

No. He is more like a child of "hope", a new chance for the human race, thanks to Abby's willingness to die for him and allow the Guf to become repopulated with souls awaiting birth.

No, Demi was not pregnant during the filming of The Seventh Sign. The movie was filmed in 1987, and Demi gave birth to her first child, Rumer, on August 16th, 1988. She became pregnant with Rumer after the movie was in post-production. The nude scene in which she is getting into a bathtub was done with the help of a prosthetic. In an interview made after the movie release, Canadian host Brian Linehan asked Demi if her instincts were real, considering that she wasn't pregnant during the shoot of the movie. Demi replied she tried to get inside Abby and to understand where a woman like her would come from, given the aspects Abby was faced with.

With the exception of spouses and one's own children, most adult Orthodox Jews don't touch other adult members of the opposite sex except in cases of emergency.

She is said to have been Seraphia, the woman who offered Christ water during the Crucifixion but was turned away by a Roman centurion named Cartaphilus after he asked her if she would die for him. Cartaphilus is presently in the form of Father Lucci (Peter Friedman), and Jesus is there in the form of David Bannon (Jürgen Prochnow).

Two movies that are often compared to The Seventh Sign include Rosemary's Baby (1968) (1968), in which a pregnant woman believes that Satan worshipers are after her baby, and The Omen (1976) (1976), in which the son of Satan is born by a jackal and adopted by an American diplomat and his wife. Another movie about a demonic child recommended by viewers of The Seventh Sign is The Exorcist (1973) (1973), in which a priest is called in to exorcise a demon who has taken possession of a young girl's body. In The Chosen (1977) (1977), a copycat of The Omen, a man discovers that his son is the Antichrist. Although it doesn't have a demonic child, Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal (1957) [The Seventh Seal] (1957) is concerned with the same seven seals that form the basis of The Seventh Sign.
