Art seems to imitate life for Anton Rodgers. His second wife was 24 years his junior, while Zoe Angel was 27 years younger than Alec Callender!
Paul Mendelson was asked why Eve Matheson left the series at the end of season two, He stated "Eve is a wonderful stage actress and she was offered a world tour with the National Theatre. Working with Ian McKellen in Richard III and playing Cordelia in King Lear is pretty hard to turn down. She is still a good mate, so there was no animosity. And Lesley did us proud."
Anton Rodgers and Frances White are the only actors to appear in every episode, next is Paul Venables who appears in 38 out of the 39 episodes. The character Zoe appears in every episode but is played by two different people (Eve Matheson and Lesley Dunlop).
The plaque on the solicitors' door says Henty, Semple and Callendar. Mr Semple is revealed to have died a few years before. Miles Henty only appears in the first two series, but is said to have left, leaving Alec to practice on his own. Miles is a very forward male, and keeps on insisting Hilary comes out for another welcome meal with him. Miles' wife is a sculptress and he has to chase her down to the West Country at one point to save his marriage which may be why he left. Miles is the person who encourages Alec to ask Zoe out in the first place so a major figure in the plotline.
