Banned (1989)

Trivia

Banned

Edit
Director Roberta Findlay retired from filmmaking after this film failed to be picked up for distribution. She told one interviewer, "There were no more video companies left to sell garbage to."
Debbie Rochon's first substantial role. She had a small uncredited role with one line in Lurkers (1987), also directed by Roberta Findlay, and Findlay liked her so much, she offered her a role in this one. But one scene required nudity, which she'd never done before. She decided to do it, which surprised the writer, who she knew, because he didn't think she would take that kind of role. She said she felt a little embarrassed, like she was letting him down. But that didn't stop him from being on set when she stripped off her clothes. She told website Mr. Skin that being nude that first time in front of the cast and male crew was "very scary." But Findlay made it extremely comfortable for her because Findlay knew what it was like since she'd been nude in almost every one of her films as an actress. After her initial nervousness, Rochon relaxed and realized it was no big deal. She said, "When I started, that's how you broke into the business-especially for good parts that other actresses turned down. All I wanted to do was work. There was no money. I think I was paid $50 for the day I did my nude scene in Banned. Embarrassing, but true. I knew I would become a better actress, and my roles would get better." She went on to perform nude in several other films.
Media Blasters revealed via social media in August 2020 that it was planning to release Banned on Blu-ray later that year. As of Nov. 2021, it had still not been released.
