Director Yash Chopra offered Rekha the role of Chandni, since she had played a character called Chandni in his previous film Silsila (1981). She turned it down, but recommended Sridevi for the role.

An instrumental tune in the film went on to become the song "Kabhi Main Kahoon" in Yash Chopra's next film Lamhe (1991).
all three lead actors passed back to back within 3 years of Vinod Khanna in 2017,Sridevi in 2018 and Rishi Kapoor in 2020.
