Dr. Rex Martin mentioned that he went to "Miskatonic University", the college where Re-Animator (1985) took place. Miskatonic University is supposedly located in Arkham, Massachusetts, a fictional town created by H.P. Lovecraft.
In the late 1980s, Julie Corman got summer interns to go through several hundred old scripts. The best one they discovered was this one written by Charles Beaumont for Roger Corman in the 1960s. Director Adam Simon liked it and updated it for then modern times.
In one scene, Bill Pullman's character screams, "I'm not dead yet!" His character in The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988) screams the same line as he's being buried alive.
