Well, it’s 2017. The very first day. It’s the time of year when folks look backwards into what has been, and try to give it some perspective and look forward to what may come. It’s also when some folks make resolution of what they’re going to do differently now that they have a clean slate. I don’t. It’s not that I don’t have many faults to correct (I do) but I know I won’t even remember them in a week or so, let alone keep them.
What I’m going to do is look forward, not with predictions, but what I would like to see in the coming year in pop culture.
I’d like to see the Fantastic Four published again— but only if Marvel remembers what they’re about. This isn’t just a team, it’s a family. You can...

There has been a debate amongst comics wags that the rumor about Marvel cancelling their flagship title, Fantastic Four, during their 75th anniversary celebration was just that – a rumor. Marvel/Disney couldn’t possibly be that petty. Bleeding Cool.com‘s Rich Johnson, who carried the story, steadfastly stood behind his sources. Good for him.
Evidently, Marvel wasn’t happy with how 20th Century Fox was treating the property in the forthcoming movie reboot, they didn’t want to support it and so were cancelling the comic book. Ok, but would they cancel all those X-Men titles if they didn’t like the way Fox handled their latest X-movie? Of course not. Nor did Marvel cancel the Spider-Man titles despite the atrocious way Columbia handled the Spidey flicks of late – and they’ve got release dates for three or four more.
To be fair, compared to the profits of the...

DC Comics
Founded in 1934 (as National Allied Publications) by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson, the company soon to be known as DC Comics released its debut publication with the tabloid-sized New Fun: The Big Comic Magazine #1 in February 1935.
Since that time DC has become one of the largest and most successful companies operating in American comic books. They, of course, are responsible for many iconic superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow and many more. They have also given us a fair share of classic antagonists such as the Joker, Lex Luthor, Catwoman, Darkseid, Black Manta, Deathstroke, Sinestro, and Professor Zoom.
Although they have been around for nearly a century, DC Comics have become incredibly popular over the last decade or so. While the comic books and paraphernalia businesses are booming, DC has also been enriched by a stable of upcoming movie franchises, including Suicide Squad,...

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is currently stomping its way all over the global box office, and while it.s a markedly more enjoyable film than the first, it fails just as hard when it comes to showcasing the seriousness of its characters being involved in a life-or-death battle. Luckily, those of us that want to vicariously live through hyper-violent teenagers murdering other teenagers will get the chance now that prolific genre-bending director Takashi Miike (Audition) has signed on to direct an adaptation of the violent manga As God Says (Kamisama no lutoori). Hooray! The manga, written by Muneyuki Kanshiro with illustrations by Akeji Fujimura, was serialized in Kodansha Comic Magazine from March 2011 to November 2012 and follows a high school boy named Takahata Shun (Sota Fukushi) who expects an ordinary day of schooling, but gets something much worse. After his teacher meets his untimely doom, Shun.s class is subjected...

It's been some time since it was first announced that 20th Century Fox is planning a reboot of the Fantastic Four film franchise. Today, Variety has an update with word that the studio is eyeing Josh Trank as a potential helmer. Trank makes his big screen directorial debut with Chronicle on February 3rd and, with it, already has a connection to both the studio and the superhero genre. Fantastic Four , Marvel's self-proclaimed "World's Greatest Comic Magazine", first hit the stands in 1961. Its debut is generally considered the beginning of the "silver age" of comics and the real beginning of the Marvel Comics universe that exists to this day. The property has been adapted twice before for the big screen with Fantastic Four in 2005 and Fantastic...

The Comics Code Authority Seal has been acquired by the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (Cbldf). Comic Magazine Association of America previously administrated the approval stamp, having introduced it in the 1950s. DC Comics and Archie Comics abandoned the rating system earlier this year, prior to reports that it has been defunct since 2009. However, the branding still appears on titles from other publishers, as well as t-shirts and other products. Cbldf is expected to use the symbol of censorship to support their First Amendment defence work. The organisation will also be entitled to revenue from the sale of merchandise bearing the stamp. Charles Brownstein, Cbldf executive director, said, "As we reflect upon (more)...

Marvel Entertainment has extinguished their flaming comic book character The 'Human Torch', one of the founding members of The "Fantastic Four" comic book series.
The life of 'Johnny Storm' is taken during a cosmic battle, as written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Steve Epting in the February 2011 issue of "Fantastic Four" # 588.
Available January 25, 2011, the issue features Storm making his last stand fighting 1 billion creatures of the 'annihilation storm'.
According to new Marvel owners the Walt Disney Company, the character is a 'bad influence' on young kids who may want to emulate and possibly 'immolate' themselves as the burning superhero.
Marvel has also been concerned with lagging sales for what has been touted as "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine", particularly in the Orient, where 'Four' is considered a bad luck number.
Like the rest of the "Fantastic Four", the 'Torch' gained his powers on a spacecraft bombarded by cosmic rays,...
