The 2006 DVD release from Retromedia claimed to be uncut, but was actually a censored print which only ran 74 minutes. The 2019 Blu-ray release from Severin runs 82 minutes, making it the first time the full uncut version has been released in the U.S.
Although dubbed for export in a so-called "horror version" (77 minutes) that trimmed the erotic footage and left off the original ending, the film was unreleased in the United States and hard to see in English apart from a Dutch VHS and a BBFC-cut Redemption Video UK tape of the erotic version until France's Neo Publishing put out an English-friendly DVD in 2005 of the longer erotic version, with the original ending as an extra, followed by Retromedia's PAL-converted US DVD.
Special effects artist Benoit Lestang said more of the film's budget went to the effects than the actors.
Although most of his career was spent writing and directing softcore and hardcore pornography, screenwriter Jean-Claude Roy acknowledged in interviews that he is a horror buff and tackled this project because there were so few examples of the topic at the time.
