Sonakshi Sinha was born during the making of the film in 1987.
When Gautam was questioned why he signed a commercial star like Shatrughan Sinha he responded that Shatrughan had a abnormal body frame. Shatrughan has a big torso and uneven thin legs. The character needed these type of characteristics.
Satyajit ray was vaguely interested in this story back in 1956 but he couldn't make the film that time for the Indian censorship in choice of material for films at that time.
