John Mellencamp was from Seymour, Indiana. Co-star Claude Akins, who plays his father, was raised in Bedford, Indiana.
Claude Akins' portraying Speck Parks lets him return to his "evil villain" roots. He's no Lobo-esque comic cop in this one.
When visiting Seymour, Indiana, pick up the pamphlet with a map to locations used in the film.
ZZ Top released their big Tres Hombres album in 1973. In it they have a song called Master of Sparks which describes dragging a man in a cage behind a pick up truck "Out in the sticks on Highway 6".
Mariel Hemingway states in her autobiography "Out Came the Sun" that a real flirtation developed between her and John Mellencamp during filming. However, due to her being married at the time nothing serious came of it.
